The STL 3-Dome Aquaponics System brings together a number of proprietary STL subsystems: continuously harvested ultra-intensive concentric lane whitefish and giant prawn aquaculture; continuous train hydroponics; aquaculture sludge-fed aquatic vermiculture, self-venting dorsal iris dodecahedron geodesic domed shrink-wrapped greenhouses and production media zero-nutrient (sic: nitrogen, in particular) polishing with Lemnaceae.
Because aquaculture production lanes operate continuously at full carrying capacity (maximum fish density); fish are allowed to swim continuously in schooled formation and eat continuously; all suspended solids, soluble proteins, NO3 and NH4 are completely removed from highly polished recirculating media; and optimized diets contain an ideal balance between locally produced animal and plant proteins and lipids (no fishmeal is required) -- STL 3-Dome system productivity is approximately 3x the best systems now available commercially in the marketplace.
STL 3-Dome systems also better recover and internally monetize system wastes than do other aquaculture or aquaponics systems – notably uneaten feed, fish and prawn fecal matter and fish filleting wastes. The latter two solid waste categories are carefully prepped as input to fully integrated aquatic vermiculture subsystems (see subsequent description of aquatic vermiculture). Clarified, nutrified recirculating media are fed to continuous trains of hydroponically-grown plants (specialty vegetables, herbs and salad makings) that circulate above the concentric fish and prawn aquaculture lanes. The attendant hydroponic system is able to parse delivery of nutrients in such as manner as to allow optimal lifecycle nutrition for any plants grown within the system.
