Integrated Sentinel Wind by SKILLICORN Technologies
How Integrated Sentinel Wind Turbines create synergies and add value to technologically advanced, innovative renewable energy solutions
Worldwide, thousands of wind turbines in the 0.3 MW to 0.8 MW nameplate capacity range are fully depreciated and ready to be replaced by much larger units. Turbines manufactured by Vestas, the industry-leading Danish manufacturer, have aged particularly well and, given some TLC, can continue to operate reliably through another 20-year depreciation cycle when “repurposed.” These units are also small enough to allow reasonably inexpensive disassembly, repackaging and shipment to new locations. Tax deductions attainable upon donation of the repurposed machines are typically more remunerative to large windfarm owners than selling the old units as scrap. STL specializes in installing repurposed, donated units as “sentinel” wind turbines within intensively managed, value-added circumstances also featuring advanced, multi-purpose solar, zero CO2 syngas-fueled CHP power and advanced power storage. Sites may also feature STL’s inline kinetic energy capture articulating water wheels (bay or riverine). Because these sites are heavy power consumers and feature non-power related labor saturation, O&M costs associated with operating such repurposed wind turbines are close to zero. Despite being older machines, they can be made to deliver the very lowest cost wind energy.
